Paul van Dyk
Paul van Dyk grew up in East Berlin, listening to Western radio stations through a wall that wasn't supposed to let the music through. By the early 1990s he was playing clubs on both sides of the newly-opened divide — and by the mid-90s, he'd written "For an Angel," a track that arrived quietly in 1994 and hit everyone like a freight train when the 1998 E-Werk remix landed at Creamfields. He wasn't even headlining that afternoon slot; by the time it ended, it didn't matter. He co-founded Vandit Records in 1999 — still running — and spent the next decade building one of trance's most consistent catalogues: Out There and Back, The Politics of Dancing, Reflections (the first DJ album to earn a Grammy nomination for Best Dance/Electronic Album). World No. 1 DJ in 2005 and 2006. VONYC Sessions, his radio show, hit 1,000 episodes in January 2026. The sets hold up. The journey they build toward is still the point.
